As a Christian do you support life?

I have been reading "Lies Women Believe" by Nancy Leigh DeMoss. She so boldly put together the following words (from pg 169 of her book) that I'm sure has satan and feminists cringing:
"Abortion infanticide, and homosexuality are examples of life-destroying practices that have become widely tolerated throughout our culture. Bible-believing Christians are generally quick to refute such blatantly evil practices. However, the evangelical world- including many outspoken "pro-lifers"- has come to accept a number of philosophies and practices that are subtly "antichildren" and "antilife." One of the fundamental tenets of feminist ideology has always been the right of a woman to determine for herself if and when she will have children and how many children she will have... The Christian world has been unwittingly influenced by this way of thinking, leading to the legitimization and promotion of such practices as contraception, sterilization, and "family planning." As a result, unwittingly, millions of Christian women and couples have helped to further satan's attempts to limit human reproduction and thereby destroy life."
Quoting Mary Pride from her book "The Way Home":
"Family planning is the mother of abortion. A generation had to be indoctrinated in the ideal of planning children around personal convenience before abortion could become popular. We Christians raise an outcry against abortion today, and rightly so. But, the reason we have to fight those battles today is because we lost them thirty years ago. Once couples began to look upon children as creatures of their own making, who they could plan into their lives as they chose or not, all reverance for human life was lost..."

I challenge you to think on these things. As a Christian do you truly support life or have you unknowingly been influenced by the thinking of the world in regards to children?

  1. Dear Jo,

I am personally against abortion but i do no think that family planning is a sin. We plan something for the good of our family, nation, society. We are not killing a life right? But i am still not sure about this Joanna. May God help us to do His will. These days i see that churches are against abortion and not against the preventive measures...

  3. Dear Emi, I think your thinking is what most Christians think and I appreciate your honesty in sharing. However, I want to challenge that thinking. If the LORD says children are a blessing why would you want to prevent a blessing? Think about that.
I think Christians have this thinking that if they leave it up to the LORD they will have 12 children. They will have 12 children if that's the number that GOD desires for them. HE has control over whether you conceive or do not. I know of families that have left it up to the LORD completely and have 3 children and others that have 7-19! The question is do we truly view children as a blessing or an inconvience with our plans? Do we truly believe and trust that the LORD's timing and planning is better than our own?

  4. Hello Jo,

Thank you for your reply. I agree that children are a blessing, but God has given us the wisdom to build our family. You can have many kids but practically if you see you will not be able to nurture them and provide them the necessities of life. In present situation you can only bring up 2 kids (i.e give them good education, clothing, shelter, toys, their needs etc) if you will have 5 or more kids you will not be able to satisfy them and naturally unnecessary problems will arise and your family life will be shattered. Just for meeting their needs you will have to take a second job, or for people like us in India we rarely have the option of taking a second job, so how do we provide? Can we get into debts? NO. So i feel it is better to plan and act with wisdom than to act foolishly and then suffer...

  5. Dear Emi,
What struck me is that it sounds like you are looking at yourself (you and your husband) as the provider. If you are trusting in yourself to provide your needs then I understand your fear. Philippians 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Matthew 6:25-34 also talks of how the LORD is our provider.

A great article I would suggest in response to your thoughts is: http://www.titus2.com/corners/7-00-d.htm
